Previous Federal Bureau of Investigation Head James Comey Files Not Guilty Plea to Accusations of Falsehoods Congress
Previous FBI chief James Comey has denied the charges to giving untrue testimony to lawmakers and obstructing a legislative process.
The former director's lawyer filed the answer on his behalf in a US district court in Alexandria, Virginia on mid-week.
The defense lawyer announced he would attempt to have the proceedings dismissed for several causes including that his the accused, a detractor of former President Trump, was being singled out.
Mr Comey was charged soon after Donald Trump urged his top legal official to move forward against him.

At the proceedings on mid-week, the defense counsel the legal representative advised the court they aimed to present several motions to throw out the proceedings before a court case, stating the government's case was spiteful and that a US attorney was unlawfully appointed to handle the case.
Mr Comey's legal matter was initially overseen by the original attorney, who resigned under scrutiny from Trump after his investigation into another opponent - NY AG Letitia James - failed to initiate prosecution.

Mr Comey appeared in positive mood as he walked into the courtroom on mid-week, conversing with his lawyers and sharing humor. He was joined by his partner, Mrs Failor and daughter Maureen, a US lawyer who the previous administration recently fired.
Following the reading to the magistrate read his constitutional guarantees and the dual charges against him in court on Wednesday, the defendant was asked if he comprehended the accusations.
"Yes your honour. Appreciate it," he told the proceedings.
Background Context
The former director was the head of the FBI from 2013 to 2017 and was fired about a few months into the former president's first term as president. At the moment, the director was overseeing an probe into foreign election meddling and whether there were any connections between Moscow and the presidential campaign.
Throughout his leadership, the director sparked a backlash from liberal politicians when he stated just shortly prior to the 2016 election that he was investigating presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's use of a non-governmental email account. Legal actions against the candidate were never brought, resulting in disapproval from Republicans as well.
Present Charges
The federal government assert the former director provided false information to Congress during a congressional hearing in September 2020 when he was being questioned about both the email probe as well as the election interference investigation. Via social media James Comey shared to his social media after he was indicted, he said he was innocent and charged Trump of behaving like a "dictator".

These allegations against the former director surfaced after Trump posted on digital channels insisting on his attorney general, Ms Bondi, take legal action against the former director and other people.
