New England Match Longest Winning Streak From Brady Years with Win Over Jets
First-year player Henderson has tallied five touchdowns in the present year
New England matched their longest winning run from the Tom Brady period as they overcame division opponents the New York Jets by 13 points in professional football
Rookie Henderson led the way with three scores as the New England squad claimed an eighth consecutive victory for the initial occasion since iconic QB Brady's last year with the franchise in the 2019 season
QB Drake Maye accumulated 281 passing yards and a score, completing 25 passes from 34 throws
The win bolsters the New England's advantage at the summit of the AFC East as they moved to nine victories against two losses, with the Jets bottom after falling to two wins and eight losses
The visitors had gone in front at Gillette Stadium with QB Justin Fields scoring a short rushing score to conclude the Jets' opening drive
But the Patriots answered in the second quarter as the rookie rushed for two seven-yard TDs before the running back caught a pass from Maye at the rear of the end zone in the middle of the third quarter to push the score to 21-7
"That was a key occasion for him rising to the challenge, and it's been excellent for him to keep getting these reps," the quarterback said of the rookie. "He wants to be outstanding."
Justin Fields threw to John Metchie late in the third period to narrow the deficit for the visitors but Andy Borregales booted a two field goals in the final period as the Patriots sealed the win
